We are glad you have come to visit us here at First Christian Church via our website. We are a non-denominational, Independent Christian Church located in South Central Kansas, dedicated to ministering to families and individuals from throughout the area. Though we are an independent congregation of believers we are part of the fellowship of churches historically aligned with the Restoration Movement. Sedgwick is located on the Sedgwick - Harvey Co. line approximately 15 miles north of the greater Wichita metropolitan area. In a community of 1500, the church here draws members from both the city as well as other surrounding communities and rural areas. We have a very active congregation and a full offering of programs for the whole family, but most important of all we have a constant commitment to preaching and teaching the Word of God. CHURCH MEMBERSHIP We believe that our salvation is offered by the infinite grace of God and received through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8). In the New Testament, salvation is expressed by:
BELIEVING in Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31)
CONFESSING Christ as Lord (Matthew 10:32)
REPENTING of sin and turning to God (Acts 3:19)
BAPTISM into Christ for the forgiveness of sin (Acts 2:38)
An invitation is given at the close of the sermon for those wishing to make a life commitment to Jesus Christ and to be baptized into Him, or to those who are believers in Christ, but who have not yet been immersed. Those who are immersed believers and wish to unite with this fellowship of Christians are invited to come as well.
The method of admission into the church of Jesus Christ is revealed within the pages of the New Testament. We have merely accepted the terms of His covenant and refrain from adding to it or taking from it. Believers from other communities or churches who have never been immersed are required to accept this command of Christ in order to become a formal member of this fellowship.
As the body has many members with diverse functions, so the body of Christ is dependent upon its members to use their giftedness in some capacity of service in the church and to support the church financially as they are able.
